Downloading OpenOffice.org Files with Microsoft Internet Explorer
If you encounter an error while trying to open OpenOffice.org versions of Budget
documents from the site, please follow the instructions below:
- Right click on the Open Office link instead of left clicking it
- Click on "Save Target As..." instead of "Open"
- File Download and Save As dialog boxes will appear
- Click "Save" in the Save As dialog box
- A Download complete dialog box will appear
- Select the "Open" button
- The document will open in the correct application (Writer or Calc) as expected

For an alternative resolution to the problem follow the steps below:
- Close OpenOffice.org
- Go to Start -> Control Panel
- Double click "Add or Remove Programs"
- Select "OpenOffice.org", highlighting it in blue, then click the "Change" button which appears
- Select the "Modify" radio button on the Installation program for OpenOffice.org dialog box,
then click "Next"
- If the OpenOffice QuickStarter is still running use the Task Manager {Ctrl-Alt-Del} to close
the soffice.exe process, click here for instructions (if required), then continue from Step 3 above
- When the Select Open Office.org module dialog box appears. Click on the plus sign to the left of the
Optional Components to expand the list
- Under optional components, disable the ActiveX control by right clicking the blue arrow to get a red "X"
- Click "modify" to continue
- When the Setup Program for OpenOffice.org dialog box appears, click "OK"
- When the Installation Completed dialog box appears, click "Complete"
- Close the Add or Remove Programs window
- Now when you left click on the Open Office links, the File Download dialog box will appear
- Choose the "Open" entry. If an error box appears, just click "OK"
- The document will open in the correct application (Writer or Calc). Click here to return to Budget 2005 Index.
To stop the OpenOffice QuickStarter with the Task Manager use the steps below:
- Press {Ctrl}-{Alt}-{Del}
- Select the "Task Manager" from the resulting pop-up box
- In the Task Manager select the "Process" tab located second from left, just below the menu bar
- Click on the "Image Name" heading to sort the list of processes into alphabetical order
- Locate "soffice.exe" in the list and click on it
- Click the "End Process" at the bottom right of the window
- When the Task Manager warning dialog box appears click "Yes"
- Open Office has been stopped. Click here to return to previous instructions.
